Britain is a country which says "Happy Birthday" to an old singer called Noddy Holder, Greece to Demis Roussos and France to Johnny Haliday

Neville John "Noddy" Holder best known as the lead vocalist, guitarist and occasional bass guitarist with the rock band 'Slade' is 65 today.

Things you probably didn't know about Noddy, that he :

* was born the son of a window cleaner in the Caldmore area, near Walsall town centre, but moved to the Beechdale Council Estate in the north of the town as a child during the 1950s.

* went to the new 'T. P. Riley Comprehensive School' in Bloxwich in the West Midlands and at the age 0f 13 formed a group called 'The Rockin' Phantoms' with school friends.

* later turned professional with 'Steve Brett & the Mavericks' and then joined 'The
In Betweens' which went on to become 'Slade' one of Britain's top selling rock bands to date.
