Britain, already no country for old men today, will be awash with old men in the years to come

A Department for Work and Pensions report just released, detailing life expectancy in 2011 and comparing the generations at 20, 50 and 80 years old, draws the following conclusions, that :

* today's 20-year-olds are three times more likely to reach 100 than their grandparents and twice as likely as their parents.

* a girl born in Britain in 2011 has a one-in-three chance of living to their 100th birthday and a boy, a one-in-four chance and compared to a baby born in 1931, the children of 2011 are almost eight times more likely to become centenarians.

* by 2066 there will be more than half a million people aged 100 or over.

* the latest estimates suggest that by 2056, the life expectancy for a man and woman living in England will be 84 and 89 years respectively.

So what kind of country will this little chap inhabit when he reaches his century in 2111 ?
